They’re LYING!

WARNING! The flu shot is a hoax. Save your money, save your children and do not fork over the cash next year.

How do I know this? Because we got our two youngest children vaccinated, oh yes. I folded under the “36,000 die from Influenza B each year…” pressure and paid the killer fee to save my children. The result? We spent the entire week last week suffering from the flu.

In case you’re wondering what makes Influenza B so horrible, here’s what it looked like in Rexy (he’s three). Intense, delirium-inducing fevers for, oh, seven to nine days. Misdiagnosis by doctors, (followed by an unnecessary toothpaste shot in the butt that did no good since he DID NOT have strep throat), refusal to take drugs orally, regular bed wetting (because he was too sick to get out of bed, and I was too stupid to think of using pull-ups), and total disinterest in animals.

Often Influenza B is followed by viral pnemonia, and can include vomiting and diahrea. We lucked out there, he didn’t get dehydrated and that’s probably the only thing that saved his life.

The best part? Now June’s got it. And yes, she was vaccinated too. Lucky for me she’ll take meds because I haven’t had a decent night’s sleep in a week.

Did I forget to mention that Harrison had his tonsils out last week as well? I did?

Don’t you just love Spring Break?

  1. Oh, Annie, that is terrible! Maybe you should have celebrated passover by putting lamb’s blood on your door.

  2. Poor little guy, couldn’t play with his animals… you know he was really sick. Poor little June! Hope your day gets better.

  3. Totally agree, I never get my kids vaccinated (for the flu, they get their regular shots), because its a total craphole! I’m so sorry you’re dealing with it, that sucks super bad! 🙁

  4. Typical!

Shame hon, least they go back to school soon????

  5. That happened to us…we got our Flu shot last year and then both of my kids came down with the FLU!!!

  6. What a bummer!! Thanks for confirming my suspicions and now I have justification for never getting shots for any of us! I hope everyone is better soon.

  7. Oh that stinks!!! They said that this year’s flu shot was pretty “off” on which strains they meant to vaccinate…

  8. 🙁 Sad face for the kids and mama.

  9. Asthmatic hubby gets his just in case one year they get the right mix for our area, but I don’t for the kids. We did one year and got the really bad one that year (ironically the year that hubby didn’t get his shot, but also didn’t get the flu, even though everyone else in the house did) Every year since we haven’t done it, but have been justified that even though we got the flu, so did everyone else that got the shot.

  10. I’m so sorry! I never fork over the money for that stuff. Darn it all. We’ve been through the ringer too. ugh.

  11. I’m so sorry about the illnessses! My husband’s right on board with this post. He only ever gets the flu when I make him get the shot!

  12. Good times.

  13. Oh you poor poor thing.

I didn’t know they prescribed toothpaste for Strep throat! 😉

  14. Michelle says:

Someone told me that even if they get the flu, it’s supposed to be “not as bad” as it would be if they hadn’t gotten the shot.
And I always think, “If they were any worse they’d be dead.” So maybe the shot was the only thing that kept them alive… who knows. It’s miserable. Hang in there!

  15. Oh Annie — I am so sorry. If I didn’t live so far from you (well, just down the road actually in W.J. — and If I didnt’ work full time –and If I could I come tend for you so you could go catch a nap or go to a movie or GO AWAY. but at least you can’t say My hearts not in the right place. I too wonder about flu shots. I get the flu shot as I AM OF THAT AGE (as in old) where they tell you you HAVE TO or you’ll die a terrible death.
I never get sick normally anyway –what the heck.

  16. I gave up on the flu shot ten years ago. Although, thanks to your agonizing description, I now know what I had for the ENTIRE month of March.

  17. Next time you consider something as silly as visiting the Doctor for any kind of drug…. don’t.

  18. Oh Annie! I’m a terrible blog friend because I was at my sister’s in W.J. last week, and I didn’t come and visit! How rude! But by then she will have moved!

I will let you in on a little secret……my boys were sick ALL of the time their first 6-8 years of life. Then after that, nothing. They would go to the doctor MAYBE once every other year….MAYBE!

Hang in there! I’ll get some sleep for you!

  19. annie valentine says:

April, why didn’t we have an April’s Here get together??

  20. So sorry. It sounds like you need to opt for some kind of antibiotic type drug administered through the vents. Then no more forcing. Better yet put up a quarantine bubble and just have them shoot it full of something that will actually work on everyone at the same time.
Oh…sorry it’s all just wishful thinking.
